Our Expert surf settings are for our most experienced and advanced surfers. Expert Barrel Session is dedicated to our most popular barrel settings. Ride powerful waves with consistent and fun-to-navigate barrels.
Based on your feedback we’ve recently made some changes to our Expert surf session so you can now choose from either an Expert Turning Waves session or an Expert Barrel Session.
We have also changed the capacity in our expert sessions from 14 surfers, to 12 surfers in the Expert Barrel session and 17 on the Expert Turning waves session on each side of the lake.
There are no other surfers in the other areas of the lake at all.

Face height: Around 2m
Water depth: 1.5m at take off
Swimming ability: Able to swim 25m unaided and confident out of their depth
Ages: 6+ and an experienced surfer
Book Expert Barrel Session
You should arrive 60 minutes before your session starts. This gives you time to walk from the carpark, check-in for your surf, collect your equipment, get changed and be ready for your Health & Safety briefing 15 minutes before your session starts.
We are sorry but we are only able to allow assistance dogs on site.
Expert Barrel Session
Suitable For
To join the Expert Session you must be able to
- Swim 25m unaided and be confident out of your depth
- Ride waves around 2.0m comfortably
- Paddle in large waves and strong currents
- Take-off consistently
- Generate speed
- Perform turns and manoeuvres across wave
- Negotiate sections
- Demonstrate respectful surf etiquette in group

Right or left?
Surfers can book ‘the left’ or ‘the right’ for their session, the waves are perfectly mirrored on either side of the pier;
The Right: Is a righthander to the right of the pier as viewed from shore, which will be forehand for ‘regular’ stance and backhand for goofy stance.
The Left: Is a lefthander to the left of the pier as viewed from shore, which will be backhand for ‘regular’ stance and forehand for ‘goofy’ stance.
Surfers stay on their booked side for the duration of the session, with no switching, for safety reasons and to ensure surfers maximise their time in the lake.
Who's it for?
Our Expert Barrels Session is for our most advanced surfers. It’s ideal for highly experienced and progressive surfers.
To join our Expert surf session you need to be a highly experienced and proficient surfer, able to negotiate more powerful waves with confidence.
Book Expert Barrel Session
You should arrive 60 minutes before your session starts. This gives you time to walk from the carpark, check-in for your surf, collect your equipment, get changed and be ready for your Health & Safety briefing 15 minutes before your session starts.

You must watch a Health & Safety video and sign a waiver before you surf with us, please ensure you do this before arriving on-site. After your first visit, you will only need to sign your waiver once every 60 days. The system will automatically notify you when it is time to sign your waiver, please ensure you do this before you arrive on-site. You must watch the whole Health & Safety video before you can sign your waiver, this is to reduce the briefing time when on-site and help keep you socially distanced.
