What’s Good about our Energy?

by The Wave Team

How we work with Good Energy

Building on Good Energy powering our waves with sustainable energy, they’re now officially our sustainable energy partner. Our partnership began with Surfing After Dark, where Good Energy sponsored the lights that let you surf for longer as the nights draw in. Not only does this mean more hours to enjoy surfing, we also think it’s a pretty cool experience, check out this video over on our Instagram!

It’s important that we work with businesses that are on the same journey as us. Both The Wave and Good Energy shared achieving B Corp certification in the same month! That makes Good Energy the only B Corp home energy supplier in the UK.

“A partnership with Good Energy, just makes good sense! With our shared values and approach to becoming truly sustainable organisations, we are delighted that they are now our official renewable energy partner.”

Hazel Geary, CEO, The Wave

Alongside sponsoring our Surfing After Dark sessions, Good Energy will also be

  • Contributing to our social impact fund

  • Taking part in events, including our first customer surf competition in October

  • Sharing exclusive discounts on green energy with our customers

  • Buying our excess solar power and powering us with renewable energy on the days we need it

How does the wave use renewable energy?

Since The Wave opened, we’ve used renewable energy. We took this a step further when we turned on our solar array in summer 2023!

By early 2024 we had already generated 262mwh to The Wave and sent another 285mwh to the grid!

There are times when we still have to take energy from the grid and this is where Good Energy helps us do this using sustainable energy sources.

Any excess energy we produce on sunnier days will sold back to the grid and used by Good Energy customers.

Did You Know

  • It takes between 0.3-1 kwh to power a single wave

  • In the summer months we’re pushing up to 14,000 waves a day!

  • Our solar field generates around 6kWh every minute of daylight throughout the year and in the summer months we expect this do double
