Waikiki Lessons

Our Waikiki lesson is perfect for those looking to progress out of the white water of the Beginner Bay, to catch unbroken, green waves. It is the natural next step for those who are confident with the surfing basics and want to be supported as they move on to the next stage of their surfing journey.

Our coaches

Our coaches are highly qualified, professional and experienced. They are also down-to-earth, friendly and encouraging! We have worked hard to develop a truly inclusive approach to learning that can be adapted to suit all levels and abilities and helps to build confidence as well as surfing skills.

Surf Lessons on our Waikiki waves

Our Waikiki lessons are a mixture of land-based training and in-water action, and take place in groups of 10 with two coaches. They run at the same time as a regular Waikiki session, so there will be other surfers in the water who are not part of your lesson.

They are all about building confidence as you take that step from the white water to the Reef Area of our lake. You will learn to paddle out using the deeper channel to join the line-up, understand how to catch an unbroken wave, perfect your pop-up and gain a longer ride. The lessons will also teach you trim skills and how to make minor changes of direction, so you stay with the wave as it breaks.

Your lesson will include a health and safety briefing every time you surf, thirty minutes land-based lesson, including warm up activities, and one hour in the lake.

It is important to make sure you arrive 60 minutes before your selected time slot to ensure you have plenty of time to pick up your equipment and get suited and booted and ready to surf. Please ensure you have signed your waiver online before arriving to site.

Surfing and bodyboarding are physically challenging and carry risks that we cannot entirely eliminate. Have a look at our Health & Safety information and find out how to surf safely here.

Suitable for:

Improving surfers who have caught many beginner waves and can pop-up and ride their waves in the bay with control and are looking for the next challenge.

Wave Type:

The Waikiki wave is a slow, mellow, spilling wave, which is soft breaking but also a longer ride from the reef area. This wave provides more time for the surfer to get to their feet, adjust their footing, take a deep breath and enjoy the ride! These waves are slightly smaller than our Intermediate waves.

The way the Waikiki wave breaks is ideal for developing paddle strength. The natural direction of the wave is away from the wall, guiding you back towards the channel and helping with the paddle back out to the line-up.

For improvers, a Waikiki session will allow you to travel a greater distance, start to introduce you to turns and help you gain greater board control. It will also offer an introduction to surfing etiquette and experience of being in a line up, plus help you develop paddle technique and stamina.

Please note: This is a softboards only session. You can use either our Soft tech boards or your own soft board.
